Program

There are 489 butterflies we would like to release this year – each represents a woman or a children that will come through the doors of Women’s Place Elgin’s Emergency Shelter in the year ahead and find safety and counsel there.

Please show your support of women and children needing safety from harm and abuse by purchasing a butterfly or two.  Each butterfly can be sponsored for $30.

Then please join us on Saturday September 30th for our first annual butterfly release.

We’ll begin at 1:30pm with a brief presentation about the last year and the families that your support and kindness has helped.  We’ll share the profound effect that 24 hour safety and community love has had for women and children as they pursued their hopes for safer lives.

Then we’ll look to the future and make our shared commitment together to continue to stand with women and children needing safety.

We’ll conclude with everyone joining together to release the butterflies you have so generously sponsored. We’ll hold in our minds and hearts our wishes for each woman, each child, and our community as we strive together to create safety for all.

The proceeds from the annual butterfly release will support the life changing safety, support, and hope available 24 hours a day at Women’s Place Elgin’s Emergency Shelter.

Please know that butterflies are not harmed by this event.  They have been raised with care, feed, and sent gently to us for release at a time that is conducive for their migration to Mexico.  There will be female and male butterflies released to help re-establish the monarch butterfly population that has been so effected by human activity.
